Assignments: Solicitor in his own law office in Luxembourg , Thielen&Associes is part of the Alliott Group worldwide network of lawyers and auditors, as well as A4ID (“Advocates for International Development”), a charity by lawyers to eradicate poverty through legal education and assistance.
Professional Experience: Master’s Degree in Law and a European Community’s Law Study Certificate from the University of Paris I/ Panthéon-Sorbonne 1985, Specialized Studies in Private Law – Contract and Responsibility, in 1986 with a thesis on “Loss of Opportunity and Risk Creation”; qualified Attorney-at-Law and Solicitor in 1989. Legal practice focuses on financial, corporate, commercial, economic criminality, real estate, civil, labour and administrative law, both at a national and at an international level, as well as the domiciliation of companies, family office and residence permit applications. Experience in applying foreign law in Luxembourg. The main part of the international clientele comes from the European Union, Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean area (North Africa, Middle East).
Potential sectors for developing relations with Estonia: Luxembourg’s main economic sectors that may interest Estonia are among others the financial services, cargo services and the telecommunications sector (the Luxembourg company SES is a world-leading satellite operator). Due to its strategic geographic location, the activity of international logistics hub is currently being expanded. The Grand Duchy’s tax system is also interesting for the domiciliation of financial participation companies and family office benefits. These areas could be interesting for investments from Estonia in Luxembourg as well as for cooperation and participation by Luxembourg companies in Estonia.
Visions and proposals for the future: bringing together potential investors with interested partners, supporting an economic mission from Estonia to Luxembourg or from Luxembourg to Estonia in cooperation with the concerned professional representative bodies (Chambre of Commerce etc.). Cultural activities and events for raising interest for Estonia in Luxembourg, in particular through exhibitions and concerts by Estonian artists. Keeping regular contact with Estonians living in Luxembourg through the “Association Luxembourg-Estonie a.s.b.l.”.
Associations: A founding member and former president of both the Federation of Free Radios in Luxembourg and the non-profit association «L’Association luxembourgeoise des intérêts maritimes» («Luxembourg Association of the Maritime Interests»), former vice-president of the non-profit association Achila («Association Culturelle Hispano Latino Américaine»), as well as a founding member and former vice-president of the Lions Club Luxembourg Viaduc.
Awards: the title “Knight of the Grand-Ducal Order of the Oak Crown” by the Grand Duke of Luxembourg in May 2012.
