On April 29, the Estonian Ambassador to the United States Eerik Marmei and the Estonian Consul General in New York Eva-Maria Liimets opened the first Estonian Honorary Consulate in Cincinnati. The Estonian honorary consul is Mary B. Nippert, whose consular area are the states of Ohio and Kentucky.
Ambassador Erik Marmei expressed satisfaction that the network of Estonian honorary consuls in the United States is growing. “It’s a great pleasure, that Estonia now has an Honorary Consul in Ohio and Kentucky. Honorary consul Nippert will undoubtedly contribute to both Estonian economic interests and introducing the culture in the region, as well as to simplifying procedures for local Estonians, who no longer need to travel to New York or Chicago for example, to receive their passports,” the ambassador added.
Nippert said that there are highly advanced technology industries in both Ohio and Kentucky, which are a good starting point in developing relations with Estonia. The honorary consul also wishes to draw attention to the promotion of cooperation in the field of education, since both states have a number of internationally renowned universities.
